Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.
Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865)
Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power.
Eric Hoffer (1902 – 1983)
Be fit for more than the thing you are now doing. Let everyone know that you have a reserve in yourself; that you have more power than you are now using. If you are not too large for the place you occupy, you are too small for it.
James A. Garfield (1831 – 1881)
The answer is yes. What can be done? That’s a bit complicated, but basically…nothing. History is full of societies that have enjoyed being in power and rather quickly “falling.” We could learn from history, but that would require knowing it, understanding it and applying those lessons in the reality of today. Sounds like to much work. Got to go watch “lost.” Oh the irony.
I don’t think we’re losing power, I think we’re losing credibility. The United States has suffered greatly during the “reign” of George Bush. His arrogance and ignorance as our leader has compromised our credibility. His poor leadership is having a negative impact on our military strength, which may come back to kick us in the rear. Many countries only like us because we provide financial support. It’s all about the money. I hope it’s not too late to turn things around.
