On Saturday, the box containing the Sundance catalogs for the last 18 years arrived. I spent hours this weekend looking over the films that launched at Sundance, how the festival itself changed over years and how sponsorship shifted. It’s quite interesting.
I’ve been teaching since 1989, so I am now more aware of the legacy of one’s work. Years ago, I remember one of my teacher’s asking, “What are you building with your life?” I thought that was a goofy question and, since it was asked in the upper midwest, more of a question about how many children we were having than anything else. Intentional or not, we are always building something with our time, interests and work.
Over the course of the next semester, I’ll be building a Sundance Film Festival archive on this site because I think it’s cool and, besides, I would want to be able to look that kind of info up in one location. It will have film lists, links, trivia and images. I am only missing the catalog for 1985. If you have one to spare, I’d love to get a copy of it!
