Amercian Museum for the Moving Image

A picture named ammi.jpgThe American Museum of the Moving Image is dedicated to educating the public about the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media and to examining their impact on culture and society.

The Online Exhibitions include videos of political commercials and debates since the beginning of televised politics. See John Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon. Be sure to look at the 1968 commercials during the height of the Vietnam War.

There is also a wonderful animated guide to motion picture film called “Shutters, Sprockets, and Tubes”. The Seminar section is enlightening (making me want to visit the East Coast again) and the Education section was enticing.

“We think in generalities, but we live in detail.”
   Alfred North Whitehead (1861 – 1947)
   English logician, mathematician, & philosopher

“It is against the grain of modern education to teach children to program. What fun is there in making plans, acquiring discipline in organizing thoughts, devoting attention to detail, and learning to be self-critical?”
   Alan Perlis (1922-1989)
   U.S. Computer Programmer, Mathematician
