Vienna-born polymath who wrote about subjects ranging from classical music to psychology to white ants. But he’s best known for his children’s book, The Story of Art, which sold more than six million copies and was translated into 23 languages. Gombrich taught at Oxford, the University of London, and at London’s Warburg Institute.
